Elasto Mania 1.2     General Elasto Mania, commonly known as Elma or Across 2 (published in February 2000, programmed by Balázs Rózsa, Hungarian), is a very addictive 2D motorbike 'simulation' game. Like its predecessor Across it's based on a real physical model. Elma does either make people extremely addicted or makes them hate the game. Since Elma is the next step in the development from Across, the way of playing is pretty much the same as in Across. If you aren't familiar with the way Across is played, we would suggest you read the information about Across first. There are some subtle differences in how to play Across and Elma, read more below on the Differences from Across section. The shareware version game contains 18+1 levels, or tracks if you prefer (the last level contains information about how to register the game and cannot be finished). The registered version has 54+1 levels (the 55. level can't be finished, although it contains a web address to where to download more levels). The game has a very easy-to-use level editor. However, the use of it is limited in the shareware version. In the retail version you can make almost any kinds of levels and as many as you want. In case you run out of ideas, you can always enter the web and download thousands of new levels designed by other fans of the game. As in Across, you can also save replays of your drives in Elma. To top Differences from Across * New name: Elasto Mania * Twelve new internal levels * No moving objects anymore * An offline multiplaying option * Improved graphics * Modified physics o The head is in a two pixel higher position (clarifying picture ) o The position of the bike and the head in Elma are the same as in Across, but mirrored (picture ) o The bike is more elastic, so where you probably survive a high drop in Across, you would die in Elma * The best times in external levels are now stored * STATE.DAT is updated right after you make a new time or setting change, so there's no need to restart the game after you make a new best time * Top 10 best times instead of top 6 * Replay length limit is increased from 4 minutes to 5 minutes * Possibility to configure controls as you want * New settings, such as displaying high details, object and menu animations; you're also able to configure sounds inside the game * Screen modes can be switched during playing (by default by pressing +´ keys, next to backspace in many keyboards), there are five different ones * The game can't run in DOS anymore * The latter releases (including unofficial ones) offer even more new features (read the Version history for more information) To top Controls You can configure the controls yourself (Main Menu - Options - Customize Controls). The default keys are: 1. Player A: Arrows and space for controlling the bike, 1-key for screen-toggling, V-key for navigator, T-key for timer and I-key for screenshot 2. Player B: Numpad (5-key to accelerate, 2-key to brake, 1-key to rotate left and 3-key to right), 0-key (numpad Ins) for turning, 2-key for screen toggling, B-key for navigator and Y-key for timer Additional keys: in player list (Main Menu - Options - Player A) you can remove the name of a player name (not his or her times though) by pressing ALT-CTRL-ENTER. Elma has also the supervolt bug. When pressing both rotate keys simultaneously the bike rotates faster clockwise. Usually a normal volt is needed in advance unless you manage to press the buttons exactly at the same time (this varies a bit on different kinds of computers). When you make a supervolt immediately, it's called an alovolt (alone supervolt). During the playing you might want to decrease or increase the screen size to get the game run smoother, this is possible to do by pressing + and ´ keys (next to the backspace in many keyboards). Pirates of the Burning Sea    The age of sail is a popular story setting, thanks to its romantic aspects. It's an era when ships moved about by the power of the wind, rather than loud, ugly machinery, and heroes swashbuckled their way around using skill and charm. Or, at least, that's how popular culture likes to remember it. Still, there's something to be said for a pirate-themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game when so many of its competitors veer toward the familiar fantasy route. That brings us to Pirates of the Burning Sea, a game that's been in development for a number of years now. But with the launch finally in sight next month, preparations are coming to a frenzied head, and developer Flying Lab Software has been busy conducting beta tests. We dived into the test recently ourselves, with some of the developers tagging along to show off some of the game's cool features, like naval combat. Burning Sea is a bit like a massively multiplayer online role-player version of single-player games like Sid Meier's Pirates! and Port Royale. Many of the concepts in Burning Sea make it similar to those games, only expanded to allow for hundreds or even thousands of players to inhabit the same virtual world at the same time. You create a character and explore port towns and their various structures, like taverns, for missions. Then, you can embark on the open sea in a ship that you can customize with various upgrades. As you ply the waters of the Caribbean, you can sail from town to town or engage in naval battles, and you can sword-fight on land or on the decks of a ship. For the purposes of our demonstration, we created midlevel pirate characters. That may seem a bit obvious, but there are actually a number of different classes that you can choose from. You can also be a naval officer for one of the great powers of the time, like Britain, France, or Spain; a freetrader; or a privateer, which is basically an officially sanctioned pirate. Those three classes are aligned to one of the three great powers, but pirates fly under their own flag. Character creation and customization is what you'd expect with an RPG. You select a gender and name and then proceed to customize your avatar's appearance, selecting from different hats (pirates love snazzy headgear), hairstyles, jewelry, faces, eye patches, facial hair (for guys), coats, shirts, vests, necks, gloves, boots, pants, and so on. Thankfully, there's also a randomize button if you're overwhelmed by all these choices. If you don't like the color scheme, you can dye most objects with a primary and secondary color. Once you've got the look nailed down, you can begin the game. The Flying Labs developers gave us a bit of a head start, so we didn't get a glimpse of the early game. Instead, we started with characters at about level 16, so that meant that we could distribute a fair number of skill points around. Burning Sea is very much an RPG in that you accumulate points that you can use to purchase a wide variety of skills. These can range from skills that can help you in sea battles (such as flogging skills, which let you "encourage" your crew to do things such as reloading the guns faster), swordsmanship skills, dirty fighting skills, and much more.
