JAKARTA, June 23 -– The time has come for Indonesia to have a new leader in the face of the current uncertain situation, former National Mandate Party (PAN) chairman Amien Rais said.

"The time is ripe for Indonesia to have a new leader," he was quoted by Antara news agency on the sidelines of a public discussion on "How To Save Indonesia" in Yogyakarta on Monday.

He said although Indonesia was no longer colonised by a foreign power, the country was not yet fully independent because it was still at the mercy of foreign powers, especially in the economic field.

Indonesia, added Amien, had been applying a wrong economic system since former president Suharto's government until the present time.

To remedy the situation, he said, it was time for the country to have a new leader who had the courage to discard the old economic system and end the country`s dependence on the World Bank or other world financial institutions.

He just said that to promote himself for 2009. I'm tired watching politician talked like he is the best man for this country, meanwhile all they did was just critisize n act nothing. Social control is necessary, but right now we need someone who can act like his word.

i still give my trust to our present president, SBY. at least we are chasing down some curruptors now.

Mr Rais, we are not living in perfect world. please face the truth that we have such a big country with thousands of thought from thousands people on how to make this country to be a better and ideal place to live. and with long time of the new order regime sitting on top, we must realize that not as easy as turning back our palm to make a change.
I have a respect on you and other high rank politicians with same thought of you that we need a new leader who can bla, bla, bla.. but at least tell us, who is it?
