Faktanya: Ukuran virus HIV lebih kecil daripada pori-pori kondom.

Meski penularan virus HIV/AIDS, bisa terjadi lewat transfusi darah, jarum suntik dan bayi melalui tali pusat ibu, namun penularan terbanyak melalui perzinaan.

Dijelaskan oleh psikiater Prof. Dr. dr. H. Dadang Hawari (63), dalam seminar tentang HIV/AIDS di Fakultas Kedokteran UI, belum lama ini, konsentrasi virus HIV/AIDS terbanyak terdapat pada cairan liang senggama, sperma dan darah.

?Untuk menghindari tertular dari virus HIV/AIDS, hendaknya hindari perbuatan yang mengarah pada perzinaan, misalnya pornografi, dan juga perzinaan itu sendiri, seperti pelacuran, homoseksual dan seks bebas,? tegas Guru Besar Tetap Fakultas Kedokteran Universitas Indonesia ini.

Dilanjutkannya, provokator penularan HIV/AIDS adalah perzinaan sebagai akibat dari pornografi. Pelacuran yang semakin di organisir, pola hidup seks bebas serta penyimpangan seks seperti; kekerasan seksual (pemerkosaan); pelecehan seksual dan perilaku homoseksual, ditambah lagi penggunaan NAZA (Narkotika, Alkohol & Zat Adiktif).

Penelitian membuktikan penyakit AIDS ditularkan 95,7% melalui perzinaan/pelacuran termasuk perilaku homoseksual dan seks bebas. Oleh sebab itu, AIDS dikatakan sebagai penyakit kelamin.

Perihal pemakaian kondom untuk perzinaan, tidak 100% aman, hanya mengurangi risiko penularan (risiko penularan mencapai 30%, dengan catatan kalau kondom itu tidak bocor).

Hal ini disebabkan material kondom mengandung beberapa kelemahan seperti:

? Bahan kondom terbuat dari karet (latex) yang merupakan senyawa hidrokarbon dengan polimerisasi; yang berarti berserat dan berpori bagaikan tenunan kain.

? Pori-pori kondom dan virus HIV/AIDS hanya dapat dilihat melalui elektron mikroskop.

? Besarnya pori-pori kondom dalam keadaan tidak meregang 1/60 mikron, kalau meregang 10 kali lebih besar.

? Kecilnya virus HIV/AIDS 1/250 mikron.

? Sperma dapat dilihat dengan mikroskop biasa, sedangkan virus HIV/AIDS harus dilihat dengan elektron mikroskop.

Seharusnya ada beberapa persyaratan yang harus dipenuhi untuk pembuatan kondom oleh pabrik, seperti:

? Jumlah cacat lubang kecil mikroskopis (pinholes) maksimum 0,4% berdasarkan uji kebocoran dengan pengisian 30 ml air pada suhu kamar.

? Memenuhi standar ASTMD3492-83.

? Luas kondom 80 cm2

? Jumlah pinholes maksimum 0,4% x 80 cm2 = 4/1.000 x 8.000 mm2 = 32 mm2.

? Satu buah pinhole kalau lubangnya berdiameter 0,01 mm atau 10 mikron, maka banyaknya pinholes dalam 1 kondom ada 3.200 buah. Dan kalau diameter pinholes 1 mikron, maka akan terdapat 32.000 pinholes per kondom.

Saat ini, kegagalan penggunaan kondom untuk KB mencapai 20%. Di Indonesia setiap tahunnya terdapat 3,5 juta kehamilan yang tidak diinginkan, 60% diantaranya minta diaborsi.

Apabila efektifitas kondom untuk KB saja tidak 100% aman, apalagi untuk mencegah penularan HIV/AIDS

Protection. HIV is a 100% preventable disease. Condoms work. Therefore, condoms used consistently and correctly will almost guarantee a future free of HIV. Whether a person chooses to use condoms for oral sex is a personal decision. It certainly is adviseable to protect against other STD's, which are far more prevalent, and easier to transmit via oral sex. When engaging in a sexual relationship, follow a few rules. First, have open conversations with a prospective partner about their history, and flat out ask their history, whether they have been tested, etc. ANYone who is evasive about their answer, or refuses to answer....walk away. UNLESS you have been mutually tested with a monogamous partner...unprotected intercourse should NEVER be an option. Men, choose condoms that are the right fit, and use only ONE condom at a time. Some people think that 2 condoms at a time offers double protection. To the contrary, they increase the risk of condom failure. Use plenty of WATER based lubrication, like KY jelly, and if you question the quality of a condom, use another one. Make sure the condoms are not expired, as that also increases the risk of condom breakage. When condoms break, they do so CATASTROPHICALLY. There is no doubt. Therefore, if you use a condom, and it is WHOLE after the act, the condom worked. Always remember to hold onto the condom on withdrawl, this will prevent slippage, which overall isn't a risk for HIV, but may expose you to other STD's. The fact that HIV virus can penetrate an intact condom is also an urban myth. The ONLY exception to this is lambskin condoms...they are not efficient against HIV. Use latex or polyurethane condoms only to protect against HIV.

Laboratory studies have demonstrated that latex condoms provide an essentially impermeable barrier to particles the size of HIV.

Theoretical basis for protection. Latex condoms cover the penis and provide an effective barrier to exposure to secretions such as urethral and vaginal secretions, blocking the pathway of sexual transmission of HIV infection.

Epidemiologic studies that are conducted in real-life settings, where one partner is infected with HIV and the other partner is not, demonstrate that the consistent use of latex condoms provides a high degree of protection.
