i wanna ask to u all
do u feel your english has good enough for going abroad?
ai.Luvie
May 13 2009, 11:55 PM
i think its depend to what country that we want to go.
is you want to go to east asian likes japan, taiwan, china, korea or some europe country like france, east europe, etc
i think you don't really need an excellent english to communicate.
Its because they can't speak english fluently, and their english really really awful..
That if you just want to go as a tourist or maybe to have a bussines trip, then you'll feel that your english is excellent..
compare to the local..

But for answering your question, i do feel my english good enough to communicate..

maybe his meaning is that he is sometimes (or many times??) considering to improve his english pronounciation, and then making a plan to improve his english.. i got the meaning actually..

but maybe he has to separate it into two sentences..

but that's fine.. if anybody knows what's the right sentence is, then please correct us (including me..

hmm, I think my ability in doing conversation now is quiet improve (from worse to not to bad..he..he)
'cause in my job, sometimes we have to do conversation in english, even with my own indonesian people, especially with expatriate, most of them cann't speak indonesian, only english.
but not to worry, based on my experience dealing with these expatriate (especially france people), their english speaking ability, yeah, we can say not to good, and after short discussion with my friend, working in another PMA company, he found that most of them didn't give a damned about grammar, as long as "you understand what I mean, and I understand what you mean" then all is finish.

@TS... i think it would be better like this.. :
"alright then...
carry on children.."

back to topic..

i used to be a tour guide and tour leader, and i do really need english both written and spoken

and i know that nobody's perfect, even those native speakers may have several grammatical or pronounciation errors

so, if you asked me whether i feel confident to go abroad with my english level, well... i'm gonna say i MUST feel confident , otherwise my tour members might leave me behind

oh, and a bit confession... usually i speak english best everytime i'm under alcohol influence

that's what my best friend told me

well, I'd say perhaps I'll survive in a foreign country that uses English as one of the primary language. Though I feel that my English is so-so, I can still communicate with people

Frankly speaking, I just say what I wanna say while going abroad..
Travelling overseas is one of the most effective way to exercise our English.
Hence I'm pretty confident to do that..
Never worry about the grammar or whatever when going abroad. Just say what I wanna say...
Good luck...

I'm very comfort and confident with my "very limited english" although i live in OZ. i think people can understand with our condition. but, if i stuck to make a longer conversation, using a body language is a great help. the most important thing is don't stop learning..

as long as you can understand your partner talks n good in response, that's enough for going abroad,pals.. except when you're looking for direction n stuff for example, should be clear. european countries only few locals talks in english, canada n caribbean islands english is available. now i'm in mexico so using english with body language is so challenging to do..cheers
