i just wanna know your opinion ....
today, in majority, many schools try to get attention of many parents by delivering english lesson since 1st grade of elementary school .. even some
have it started in kindergarten (hiding behind the globalization reason ...)

do you think that our next generation will not abide indonesian .. and be proud of speaking english more than indonesian ?

im proud if i can speak many language.
But i dont know about our next generation. Its not about proud or not but, about ourself. Are we REALLY NEED or want to learning english or not?

My opinion:
Very important to learn other language, meet other people for another countries, working with them, play and chit chat with others....you know, experiences is more important than sitting at the house learning with the book. Or watching soap opera at TV,....

I dont know abot the others, but i think LEARNING english language very important for us (off course its more better if we can speak many language, like germany, french, japanese, etc)

It's important to learn many foreign languages. you know, this globalization forces us to meet a lot of foreigners. Would you only silent if a foreigner ask you for something because you don't even know English as International languages. they loves our country, so we should still keep our culture. and many foreigners also love to learn Indonesian. they want to have an easy conversation with us. so, why don't we think like them. English for an Englishman, Deutsch for Germany, French for Frenchman and other.....

start learn today, not tomorrow oe nex time, just start rigt now...

it can speak with friends, listen a english songs, watch hollywood movie and other...

so we can proud if we know speak n learn english, cause we learn...

that`s a good idea.. i think many people in the world want it, speak in english,singing,and the other. the problem is many people think that is more difficult to do that.no action from them.

i wasn't like learning english until it's become my requirement, be cause my job is online marketer. Since that i realize how important to learning english and til now i still learning.

Learning foreign language is not an indication of lack of nationalism, as simple as that. There are some countries who have SEVERAL languages as their official language (Switzerland, for example, have French, German, Italian, and English, if I'm not mistaken, as their official language).

So in my opinion every Indonesians should learn English and/or any other foreign language as soon as possible in their life. Its not a matter of pride or sign of social status (being able to speak English means you are smarter - WTF?), its a matter of being able to communicate with people of different cultures, as a starting point of becoming level with the already advanced nations in the world. Indonesians have advantage that the alphabet that is used in Bahasa Indonesia - the latin character set - is the same alphabet that is used in English, as opposed to Japanese who use Kanji, Hiragana, etc, or Chinese or Koreans. Could you imagine how hard it is to learn English if we were still using Melayu or Sanskrit characters?

Learning english would be much easier when started at the earliest development stage of one human being
We could always introduce English language by displaying all sorts of Card display regarding items
(Exp : Picture of babana and how to pronounce the words)

English should be the first second language in Indonesia. The thing is though, we often have people surrounding talk indonesia more frequently and strange to people who try to speak english.. We still love Indonesia, but still.. English become important now.

i more pay attention for local language, esp. mine: javanese...."kromo" javanese

i think it should be as early as possible. and having family dat talk in english helps

i've heard a joke: mention the only people in this world who can only speak 1 language --> englishman...

maybe it isn't funny, but at least we should be proud that we can speak more than 1 language. it shows our intelligence :-)

and as a matter of fact, we indonesian (mostly) can speak at least 2 languages: the mother language (for example, basa sunda) and bahasa indonesia..
so, what's wrong with learning other languages (not just english)?
don't we feel good if we can speak many languages?
isn't it easier for us to achieve something by speaking other languages?

but still, we should be proud of and never forget our mother language and bahasa indonesia.

from baby, because during that age, words are absorbed faster as a mother tongue. Doing it ASAP, you can speak more fluent than others who start learning it late.

we start to learn a "language" when we can hear what people talkin' to. hearing is a progress, a natural one. who can hear nicely, he will able to speak literally. that's why I deeply thought about the effective way to learn "language" is by speech, not write. write is later, when you can speak. You hear more, you can speak more too.

Simple, you're never too young nor too old to start learning English. Learn it while you can bro

We have to, but it doesn't mean that we have to be somebody else.

English is not a very special one. it just a language, so do the others. i don't know why almost people think about its superiority? you can mastered it as you are capable to do so. there's no junction about the upper class or lower class. no matter if you are kid, teenager, or even old man, you can learn it

Of course there is a benefit of understanding English over say Swahili. First of all there are just more people in the world that can communicate in English than Swahili. Furthermore, regardless of country most people in Europe will be able to communicate somewhat with you in English. Quite a few of the largest economies in the world have English as a first language, making it quite valuable for companies and a nation's growth.

Furthermore, studies show that it is easier for children to learn languages than adults. This means that even though people from all ages can learn the language, it would be more pragmatic to start when we are younger.

If you are keen to learn something, start as soon as possible. Don't delay.

To be fluent in the language, you need to continuously read, write and speak as some members already have advised. No short-cut.
