indonesian people seem so friendly person .

much of my friends from other countries say about this .. and as an indonesian, i`m proud of it .

but lately, too much fight in this country ...

rumors about SARA very sensitive for people ....

i hope this all finish soon ..

i dream about unity and peace in here .

i feel proud too when those foreigner said that, i'm proud of being indonesian.

but somehow they're true for couple things.
simple example, when one or some community wants something, they rather make a strike and push until they request has been fulfilled, or at least give them some promise so they'll stop striking
and it'll be more anarchy when they added some rude and violence.

Yes, i'm also proud being Indonesian.

But still some of the problem makes me wonder and very disappointed, on hows the government or community solve the problem.

But Bali still beautiful, Bunaken also and many places in Indonesia, i think the government should now taking serious action about ours tourism. Hope the Indonesia Visit 2008 will work.

We are no longer fit that image, you can find it yourself on the street.
Just drive your car in the middle of a heavy traffic in jakarta and you'll see have we have become.
Greedy, impatients, rude and also egoistic.

In this case we can`t generally assume the people in Jakarta as same as people in Yogyakarta , Sidoarjo , Garut , Tasik , Malang , Malangbong , Balige , Porsea and so many places in Indoneasia

any rural areas can be an example I guess but not the cities especially big ones...I like the hospitality we get in the rural areas

For some trivial reasons, yes, Indonesian people seem(supposedly?) very friendly, yet some people will judge it differently. Different people think differently, there are no concrete facts to prove that all Indonesians are friendly. Rather, if you want to prove it, state a big population and don't just give a very little tiny sample like people in rural areas. As for me, yes, they are friendly only in their areas, if they go to big city, they will definitely got influenced by its people. Moreover, village and rural are the most peaceful place in Indonesia and it only has tiny population, therefore, they tend to be friendly to each other.

Indonesian should be very nice people but depends on the location and situation.
If in the big city like Jakarta, Surabaya, Medan most of the people very selfish and pretend don't know what happen surrounding them.
But if we go to smaller town for example surrounding Jakarta, like Tangerang, Bekasi, or Depok. The people there quite helpful and care about other people.
Trust me I've tried many times already.

I stayed in Indonesia six times and the people are very friendly and helpful. I felt me like I'd stay at home. I love the indonesian people. I have never found this feeling in other countries.

i agree and at the same time disagree if someone say people in indonesia are friendly.You know , I live in Malang, not a big city i think but the situation in my neighbourhood isnt that friendly for an instance when one of my friend looking for my house, she asked my neighbour but unfortunately my neighbour didnt know my name eventhough she lives only two houses from mine thats a prove that our society no longer friendly isnt it?
the situation is different when i go climbing in mountainous area surround malang, people in these rural area tend to respect each other, not only people inside their community but also outsider. you will be greeted warmly when meeting someone on the street. i used to park my car at one of their house without hesitation, nobody will steal my car. when it was to dark to continue my climbing they offer me to stay at their house without paying. when it was time to leave they offer me to take some of their vegetables.
so my conclusion is its not right if we generate that all people in indonesia is friendly.

most of Indonesian is very nice to their close friend or relatives, and also nice (in fact it is the result of 'ndeso' habit) to foreign people (esp. Caucasian).

Beside that, what do you think why they think we are nice people ( and of course we are:) )?? because they can see in their international news program that we are always smiling in front of reporter's camera although there had been a disaster ( and I can say it again: 'ndeso' )

Da conflict is a normal condition for da developing country, we should change it slowly but sure..

Mostly, Indonesian people are nice and friendly... This is genetic. Trust me.

If you meet people Indonesia people who have bad attitude and look not friendly, there are some possible reasons :

- They didn't get appropriate education because education is very expensive in Indonesia.
- They feel not so well because of the disease they got. Medical treatment is also expensive in Indonesia.
- They feel not fit because of malnutrition. Nutritious and healthy foods are hard to find in Indonesia. Once you can find it, think twice before you buy because that may contain a fake nutrition.
- You were annoying them doing their activities. They need to feed their family. So don't disturb them.
- You threat them. So they fight back. This is normal defense mechanism.
- They were true criminal who have bad genetic inherited from our colonizer in the past.
- And many more possible reasons for them to keep survive in their own homeland.

Anyhow, the number of bad people in Indonesia is much-much fewer than the nice ones. Please be kind when you being in this country, and you will get warm welcome like you were in the middle of your own family...

Times has changed. Indonesian people are no longer nice and friendly as they were before. There are many factors that influence this change, say poverty. Indonesian is one of the poorest country in the world and how could you show your nice and friendly characteristics if your life is miserable? Only angel can do that.

I have to thanks to God, cause I am living in Indonesia. although, indonesia is a bad country now, cause there is so much terrorism, corruption, many more.
but I will always proud to be Indonesian. I love people in Indonesia. they're kind people,such as in my home town. I love it.

Indonesians are more friendly around strangers than they are around people they know, i.e. friends, family.. that explains why tourists get such good impression towards indonesians.

Indonesian people are kind to somebody else particularly who come from others culture, such as; european, american, australian and they are easy to understand the others culturel.

Yes I am proud and I agree.

It is all about law which bond it all peoples wants and to limit so that peoples won't harm each other.

But when there were no local laws, people will do what they think it is right.

i am proud to be an Indonesian, but being frankly....I kinda hate our president right now.
as you u can see as decision makers, he usually makes a useless decision that makes indonesian people more and more suffer.....
I think this is why indonesian people aren't nice anymore....

It's too arrogant. No country has all nice citizen. We Indonesian are just unlucky because all the bad mankind are easily exposed, while i other countries, they try to hide all the scandals, not like us, proud to expose everything to public

i think the characters of indonesian are depend of where do they live...its the environment that influenced their character...

maybe if u say that indonesian people are nice,,thats because you've the indonesian that live in a good environment...and the opposite, if u say indonesian people are terrible,,maybe u've meet indonesian that lived in a bad condition....

the problem is,i think, is how to make our environment become nice and friendly?so that we can make "all" indonesian become such nice and friendly (even if it may impossible)...maybe a little phrase can be used,,that is "start with our selves,start it with our closest neighbourhood and start it right now"

Different location different people I can say. While most people are welcoming and friendly, but it seem less and less in big city.

Everytime I go home for Christmas hols I'm met by bored, rude people from airport immigration to the lady at the supermarket cash register (some are quite unhelpful too if I may add).

Maybe as PacePapua pointed out, I live in the city, which may be where the source of the unfriendliness comes from. ¬_¬
